Mara Simpson

British songwriter Mara Simpson has captivated audiences around the world with her soulful melodies, rich lyricism, unassuming charm and wicked laugh. With a style of songwriting equally as eclectic as her background, Mara delivers an old soul voice with a unique perspective, quoted by New Zealand Musician Magazine as ‘Soulful, sincere, warm, rich and intimate. The songwriting is stunning.’ Growing up between England and East Africa, she’s played stages and festivals across Europe, all over New Zealand, in London and in Berlin, where she is currently based. Over the last 2 years Mara has performed and collaborated with Ray Wilson (Genesis), Hollie Smith, Abby and Pause Applause.

Since moving to Germany, Mara has toured extensively, playing over 40 cities, towns and villages around the country. From festival stages to living rooms. Performances of note include Berlin’s English Theatre, an appearance on the Hamburger Kuechen Sessions and city festivals in Nordhausen and Muenster. As an independent artist, Mara has personally self-booked, promoted and managed all these shows. On arriving to Berlin Mara met the band Abby and members Henne and Lorenzo aka Feeling Valencia who immediately expressed their interest in producing Mara’s music. Feeling Valencia together with Mara and her band created one track last year; Fine Lines. The track was made song of the week by numerous music websites across Europe, Canada and the States, gaining over 16,000 plays. Mara also featured on Ray Wilson’s (Genesis member) current album, Chasing Rainbows.
